EllipticalRealm Q&A

How do I reach out to you about your EllipticalRealm YouTube channel or videos? You may leave feedback or comments about a particular video within the video comment section. Alternatively, you may ask a question on Twitter at https://twitter.com/ellipticalrealm

What program are you using to film (in-game)? As of January 2016, I am using OBS Studio for all of my projects.

Will you be uploading new walkthroughs, Let's Play, or other gameplay videos in the future? Most definitely. Be sure to subscribe so that you do not miss any!

How do you film and share your videos on YouTube?

1) I film in-game using a program such as OBS or FRAPS.

Note: if using OBS https://obsproject.com/ it is free to download and use, and has much smaller file sizes, as well as has the ability to stream gameplay. Alternatively, if using FRAPS, be sure to have plenty of hard disk drive space as a short video could easily be a few Gigabytes in size and a long video such as 10 - 20 minutes long could easily be 50 - 100 GB in size.

2) After I have filmed my video, I choose one of two options:

Option A: If I don't need to make any edits to my video, and if my video file sizes are small such as a few GB in size (for a 1080p 60fps 25 - 40 minute video), then I will upload the video directly to YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/upload

or

Option B: If I need to make any edits to the video and or combine multiple videos into one and or if the file sizes are too large, then I will import the files into Sony Movie Studio then I will make any necessary edits. Since, I use OBS and my video files are already recorded in 1080p at 60fps and because I wish for the rendered video quality to remain the same I will also render the video in an 1080p 60fps mp4 format.

Note: In the past, I used to use Windows Movie Maker (as it was free). However, due to program limitations and restraints I do not plan on using this for any video editing for 2016 and beyond. That said, my recommendation for new YouTubers is to use the programs that they are most comfortable with and which they can afford to film and render their videos.

3) When uploading the video to YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/upload or alternatively within the YouTube Video Manager, I will type a title and description. Then, I will add any tags, create and upload a 1280x720 screenshot for my video thumbnail, and add any other video information as necessary (such as the title of the video game and recording date).

The total time from start to finish is anywhere from 20 min to a few hours (sometimes several hours) for a 20-60 minute video. That said, although it takes a lot of time, it is a reward in of itself to be able to help other players.

Note: Going forward for 2016 and beyond, I am trying to find the right balance in my life. When I first started sharing videos on YouTube and as a perfectionist, I would often spend hours practicing and whenever I made a mistake I would start completely over and re-film or edit the failure out. Unfortunately, this added several hours or more to the time it would take to film and as a result was a lot less fun and enjoyable for me. That said, although seeking perfection is a goal to strive for, I have since come to realize that no one is perfect and that "to err is human". I've also come to realize that when it comes to social media and sharing, a lot of people only share their "perfect" and flawless life moments and not their mistakes. I should know as I used to be one of them in regards to my YouTube videos. That said, I highly recommend to both old and new YouTubers to be authentic to who you are and to live as raw, and authentic of a life that you can. Be yourself. Most importantly have fun and follow your passions.

Finally, please note that I share all of my YouTube videos for fun and most importantly to help other people. That said, I can't make any promises (at this time) as far as the speed it takes me to finish a walkthrough / let's play or other YouTube video. At best, I can only speculate as circumstances will change over time. However, I will try to upload as regularly as I am able to.

How long have you been on Youtube? While this account dates back to 2008, I have been a member of YouTube since 2006 and have been visiting / watching videos for much longer than that. I created the EllipticalRealm account primarily to focus more on gaming related videos.

Where do you live? I live in the United States.
